Generally in Mui Ne the local kitesurf community is very supportive and helpful to those learning or those who only get the chance to kite a couple of times a year, as long as nobody is kiting dangerously or irresponsibly. Now with the  gentleman in this video clip, although not filmed in Mui Ne, he is a fine example how NOT to do it.

See his frustration in himself and taking it out on those around him, obviously clear he really is not sure of what he is doing, and could end up hurting himself or others. Although he has all the gear he really has got no idea, and such kiters should contact their nearest school for some refresher lessons.

No shame in being safe and it would enable him to have a lot more fun and time out on the water, and ditch that board leash, which can have a nasty habit of sending the board at high speed across the water into ones head.

Big thumbs down to kiteboard leashes.

 Pre Launch safety checks

  • Check Equipment set up, especially lines, safety leash and chicken loop.

  • Check for other people in you launching Zone.

  • Check your position to the wind. (Make sure your kite is at the edge of the window).

  • Check for other kiters heading towards your launch area from the water or walking up or down wind.

  • 360 degree final safety check.

If you are unsure of any of the above, then please do not launch!!!!! Calmly ask your kite buddy to secure your kite and don't attempt another launch until you are satisfied with all of the checks above. Don't get frustrated as this leads to mistakes, if you don't believe? Take a look at the movie again.

Don't be a "Jean Claude" take lessons from a professional school, and if in doubt, ask!!!!

Take a look at the rules and respect page, follow these guide lines and keep out of trouble.

Classic Kite Video getting caught in an updraft, this isn't very common but you should be aware of where you kite and the local conditions, updrafts usually occur close to tall objects, buildings, large tankers, rock faces etc
