Short term tourist:
(1 week - 3 months.)
Visa on arrival (this is not a
traditional visa on arrival and you have to pre apply)
Process: Submit an online application with
payment to a third party, they will process this and then send back
to you a confirmation letter. On arrival in Vietnam simply present
this letter to immigration where they will insert a visa in your
passport. The maximum length of visa for the average tourist is 3
months, both multiple and single entry visas are available using
this method. There are a number of online sites
offering this service, but before you go ahead with choosing one it
may be worth your while to contact Miss Giang at:

has a lot of experience in this area and will be able to point you
in the right direction.
Visa via the Vietnamese embassy:
You can apply direct to the embassy of
Vietnam from the country you are in. This process has been in
operation for a long time now and is the best for peace of mind. You
need to apply at least a month in advance (before your departure
date). You will need to send your passport some photos, your
application form and a fee to the relevant department at the
Vietnamese embassy. Again the maximum length of stay for most
tourist is 3 months, although recently there have been stories of
people only being able to get a one month entry visa, but at least
you now your visa situation before arriving.

Once your in the country:
These rules seam to be in a
constant state of change, usually you will be allowed to renew your
visa from within Vietnam for a set period of time.
For this year it seamed that after you had
used up your first 3 month visa, you were able to get another 3
month visa from within Vietnam, after that a one month extension was
granted before you had to leave the country. As we said before its
all a little hazy at the moment but usually there is a path to
follow all be it sometimes unclear.
If you are in any doubt then please post you
questions on the Mui Ne Forum, and I am sure you will find the
answers you are looking for.
